EGPWS "Avoid"
- Say "Avoid, TOGA"
- Simultaneously:
- Select TOGA
- Disconnect Autopilot
- Full backstick
- With reference to ND, manoeuvre to avoid
terrain
- Check speedbrake retracted
Emergency Descent
Don masks and establish
communications.
Say "I have control, Emergency Descent".
Descend in open descent to FL100 or MEA if
higher. Speed should be the maximum,
giving due consideration to damage.
Deploy speedbrake. Consider a 90°
left turn.
Once descent is established, run the Emergency Descent
checklist.
Bomb on Board
If a landing can be achieved within 30
minutes, just land ASAP, giving consideration
to early configuration.
Otherwise, reduce risk of triggering the device
by stopping the cabin ascent
and avoiding sharp manoeuvres and
turbulence.
Also, reduce the potential effects of any explosion by adjusting ΔP
to 1psi:
- Zero cabin vertical speed.
- Descend to 2500ft above current cabin
altitude.
- Maintain ΔP=1psi until on approach,
then reinstate automatic pressure control.
Communications Failure — ICAO
Alert ATC by transmitting twice using the
phrase "transmitting blind" and
setting 7600 on the transponder.
If VMC and able to remain so: land at nearest suitable
airport.
Otherwise:
- If receiving radar vectors, rejoin the flight plan at
next significant waypoint.
- Else if under ATS surveillance, maintain speed and
level (or MFA if higher)
for 7 minutes.
- Else if under a procedural separation
service, maintain speed and
level (or MFA if higher)
for 20 minutes.
Then proceed in accordance with the flight plan.
Commence an approach at EAT if received, otherwise at
flight plan ETA and land within 30
minutes.
Communication Failure — UK Additional
If on a SID, maintain speed and follow
published lateral and vertical profile for
7 minutes, then adjust speed and
altitude in accordance with the flight
plan.
If on a STAR, maintain speed and level and
follow published lateral profile for
7 minutes, then follow published
vertical profile..
If under radar vectors, follow current instructions
for 3 minutes, then rejoin flight
plan.
If on an SRA, proceed visually or in accordance with a
suitable approach procedure. If unable, fly
a missed approach, then proceed to an airfield with a
suitable procedure.
Drift Down
- Select MCT
- If no or insufficient thrust margin:
- Disconnect Autothrust
- Descend in Open Descent
Target speeds are M.78
or 300kt for windmill relight,
or Green Dot if obstacles are an issue.
Final altitude REC MAX EO found on
the PROG page.
EGPWS "Pull Up"
- Say "Pull Up, TOGA"
- Simultaneously:
- Select TOGA
- Disconnect Autopilot
- Full backstick
- Level the wings
- Check speedbrake retracted
Circling Approach
If single engine, check the table in the One Engine
Inoperative — Circling Approach checklist, found
in QRH:ABN/ENG, to determine circling
configuration. Otherwise, the circling configuration
is Config 3, Gear Down. Speed will
be F speed.
Set up the landing runway in the
secondary flight plan, and activate it
when downwind.
Fly the associated instrument approach procedure.
At circling minima + 100ft, push
V/S.
Turn 45°, then turn onto
the downwind track
(use TRACK/FPA) 30 seconds after
wings level.
Turn final when 3 seconds per 100ft past
abeam the landing threshold. When established on the visual vertical
path, select full flap
and complete the landing checklist.
Emergency Descent
Don Oxygen masks and establish
communications.
Announce "I have control, Emergency
Descent".
Descend to FL100 or MEA if higher
in OP DES. Speed should be the
maximum compatible with any perceived
damage. Speed brake should be
used, although delay if airspeed is
low.
Consider a 90° left turn.
Once descent is established, complete the Emergency
Descent Checklist.
Evacuation
Stop the aircraft and apply the
parking brake.
Send "Mayday" and
announce "Attention Crew at Stations" on
PA.
Systems config:
- If ΔP ≠ 0: Outflow Valve:
Open
- All Masters: Off
- All Fire Buttons: Push
- All Agents: As required
Order evacuation: "Evacuate. Unfasten your seat-belts and
get out" on PA and EVAC COMMAND:
Push.
Rejected Takeoff
Announce "Stop!". Retard thrust levers to
idle, then select max reverse. Monitor
the autobraking, and if in doubt apply
max manual braking. Consider turning if there is
an upwind engine fire.
When stopped, stow the reversers, apply
the parking brake and announce "Attention! Crew at
Stations" on the PA. Then diagnose the
failure and consider
evacuation.
Reactive Windshear
Announce "Windshear,
TOGA". Select TOGA then either
follow the flight directors, or, if they are
unavailable, target 17° attitude
then increase as required. Do
not change configuration until clear of
windshear.
Predictive windshear
If activated on the takeoff roll, reject the
takeoff.
If on approach, fly a normal go-around.
If on climb out, announce "Windshear,
TOGA", select TOGA
and follow the flight directors. Clean
up as normal.
Loss of Braking
If due autobrake failure, brake
manually.
If due failure of normal braking system, select max
reverse, release the brake
pedals, select ASKID/NW STRG off,
and re-apply brakes.
If both systems have failed, apply short bursts of
parking brake, leaving until low
speed if possible.
